    SUMMARY

    A brief description summarizing the overall purpose and objectives of the position and the results the worker is expected to accomplish.

     

    The Environmental Specialist serves as the company expert for environmental compliance.  This role focuses on environmental (i.e. water, waste, wildlife, land use, reclamation, remediation, etc.) compliance activities across PDC's assets including surveil EHS regulations and regulatory actions, understands rule applicability, translates rule language into PDC applicability and interpretations, delivers subject matter expertise to ensure organizational compliance, and manages external environmental regulatory affairs.  The Environmental Specialist will also support other PDC EHS Programs, as necessary.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the position that are most important to get the job done.

    1. Identify environmental compliance requirements related to PDC's operations;
    2. Develop, manage, and coordinate PDC's relationships with state and local environmental regulatory agencies;
    3. Participate in and support federal, state, and local environmental rulemaking activities (trade association, PDC party status, expert testimony, etc.) as assigned;
    4. Support PDC strategy for EHS trade association engagement; includes participation in trade associations as assigned and communication of trade association activities to EHS team members;
    5. Establish, document, and maintain PDC’s interpretation/standards to meet environmental requirements and update as needed;
    6. Maintain knowledge of environmental regulations, best practices, standards, etc. to support PDC's knowledge base in air quality and environmental matters; be a mentor and teacher regarding environmental rules and programs;
    7. Be a mentor and teacher regarding environmental rules and programs within EHS;
    8. Provide subject matter expertise consultations on environmental regulations and PDC interpretations/programs to the EHS asset team and other customers as, as assigned by your supervisor;
    9. Support creation and maintenance of environmental programs (e.g. SPCC, storm water, Avian Protection Plan, Waste management Plan, etc.);
    10. Provide environmental related content in support of training and communications materials and activities; delivery such training and communication as directed;
    11. Establish, document, and maintain updates to the strategy for completing and submitting environmental reports;
    12. Identify recommended process improvements, best practices, and lessons learned related to environmental and programs;
    13. Identify opportunities for enhanced service delivery, efficiencies, and increased cost effectiveness;
    14. Support PDC EHS analysis of environmental data for trends; recommend actions to correct deficiencies;
    15. Support PDC’s EHS audit program as directed;
    16. Support communication to other departments related to environmental regulations and requirements;
    17. Support population of data in and use of PDC's environmental data management systems (e.g. ACTS);
    18. As needed, support other EHS programs for PDC;
    19. Perform and assume other duties and responsibilities as may be required at the direction of supervisor.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

    The specific minimum competencies required for job performance.

    1. Demonstrated experience working with environmental programs;
    2. Demonstrated experience working with environmental regulatory standards and compliance practices as they relate to upstream oil and gas strongly preferred;
    3. Knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements in Colorado and Texas;
    4. Experience working to support EHS initiatives;
    5. Demonstrated track record of engaging with stakeholders to understand interests and priorities;
    6. Flexible to work in an evolving regulatory environment;
    7. Project management skills;
    8. Excellent communication skills;
    9. Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills;
    10. Motivated self-starter;
    11. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines;

    15. Familiarity with oilfield equipment, processes, and terminology.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The scope of the person’s authority, including a list of jobs that report to the incumbent.

     

    This position may include supervision of external contractors.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The environment in which the job is performed, especially any unique conditions outside a normal office environment.

    1. 80% office environment, 20% field environment;
    2. Travel between PDC office and various oil & gas field operations as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    The minimum level of education, experience, and certifications required to perform the job. 

    1. 5+ years of relevant work experience;
    2. Bachelor’s degree in related field of study or equivalent work experience.
