SUMMARY

A brief description summarizing the overall purpose and objectives of the position and the results the worker is expected to accomplish.

The individual in this position will be responsible for design, implementation, monitoring and support of PDC Energy’s enterprise and operational technology network infrastructure.  S/He will work closely with the IT team to support office networking, data center & cloud connectivity and related services including LAN, WAN, SDN, SD WAN, VoIP systems, other premise and cloud solutions. The incumbent will also be responsible for supporting SCADA networks and network security solutions. Strong interpersonal skills, self-management, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams are critical to this position.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the position that are most important to get the job done.

  1. Responsible for the engineering, deployment, support and troubleshooting of the voice, data, and SCADA network infrastructure;
  2. Define, measure and analyze key metrics to assess overall effectiveness of LAN and WAN network performance, capacity and associated monitoring;
  3. Plans capacity upgrades for constrained networks as well as review and contribute to the procurement and budgeting of new circuits or private lines as needed;
  4. Works closely with system administrators and cyber security personnel to ensure that appropriate controls are integrated into critical systems to meet policy standards and industry best practices;
  5. Contribute as a network & solutions architect to technical and business projects;
  6. Creates and maintains system and network documentation, as-built plans, and operational policies and procedures;
  7. Develop and execute contingency plans for network infrastructure (hardware and software) failures including isolated and major outages and assists with the development and testing of Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Plans;
  8. Administers and analyzes existing network and IT infrastructure, application deployments including data patterns to develop requirements for the design and implementation of new or revised network equipment and computer systems;
  9. Interfaces with IT staff and business systems end users to support enterprise applications for internal and external customers;
  10. Monitors network activity and security logs;
  11. Evaluates, selects and applies proven techniques, procedures and criteria, in making enhancements and modifications to the corporate and SCADA network infrastructure including network, server and endpoint related hardware and software;
  12. Organizes the tracking of hardware and software modifications to the network infrastructure;
  13. Maintains a proactive firmware deployment schedule with latest stable releases to all network equipment;
  14. Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required at the direction of IT Management;
  15. Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES  

The specific minimum competencies required for job performance.  

  1. Intimate hands-on knowledge of complex network designs, dynamic routing (OSPF & BGP), QoS, switching, WAN technologies (MPLS, VPNs, SD WAN), and network management (SNMP, NetFlow, PRTG);
  2. Experience with implementing and securing private microwave and SCADA networks;
  3. Experience with SDN (VMware NSX) vSphere and Cisco ACI is desirable;
  4. Experience with Cisco Umbrella is desirable;
  5. Experience with FortiNet SDWAN, switching, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer is desirable;
  6. Experience with Zero-Trust Network Access policy creation, maintenance and operations;
  7. Experience with Cisco ISE or other IAM technologies and Azure;
  8. Must be organized, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment;
  9. Must be motivated, disciplined and a self-starter and should be willing to learn any needed skills via self-directed activity;
  10. Strong interpersonal skills – must be able to work effectively as part of a team and foster team cooperation;
  11. Effective verbal and written communications skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The environment in which the job is performed, especially any unique conditions outside a normal office environment.

  1. Consistent with that of a normal office environment;
  2. Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds;
  3. Participates in 24x7 on-call rotation;
  4. Required to work on-call during planned maintenance and/or emergencies;
  5. Travel to all PDC offices and field locations is required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum level of education, experience, and certifications required to perform the job.

  1. Accomplished incumbent typically possessing a minimum of 5 years job related experience, established position specific skills, and working knowledge of other inter-departmental functions;
  2. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or 10 years minimum experience;
  3. 6+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, security and telecommunications environment;
  4. CCNP or higher, FortiNet NSE5 or higher certifications are desirable;
  5. Previous Oil & Gas experience preferred but not required;
  6. Thorough knowledge of MS Visio for creation of network topologies;
  7. Valid driver’s license required.
