A brief description summarizing the overall purpose and objectives of the position and the results the worker is expected to accomplish.

The Planning Technician works to support the Planning and Development Team in their efforts to generate development plans for areas within the Wattenberg asset. They focus on supporting the various components of the site-selection-to-release-to-drill (SSRD) process and help manage the Generwell database.



The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the position that are most important to get the job done.

  1. Manage Generwell application in support of SSRD, ensuring all parties are completing tasks within designated deadlines;
  2. Compile and load all upcoming locations into Generwell to kick off the SSRD process;
  3. Assist Planning Team with Generwell tasks as requested;
  4. Make recommendations for Generwell process adjustments, maintenance and upgrades;
  5. Assist Planning Team with mapping of pre-directional survey “sticks”;
  6. Coordinate timing and acquisition of directional plans for permitting;
  7. Assist in DSU strategy plans and mapping;
  8. Maintain and track metrics and KPIs relating to P&D;
  9. Maintenance of various P&D datasets and databases;
  10. Assist development team with data imports/exports for use in other software;
  11. Provide support to Planning and Development Team on specialized projects, as needed;
  12. Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects.



The specific minimum competencies required for job performance.  

  1. Functional knowledge in the following: O&G operations, Generwell or other planning software, GIS, Colorado Permitting process.
  2. Ability to work with technical and other professionals;
  3. Ability to search for, find and analyze data from diverse sources;
  4. Ability to express oneself in both written and verbal form;
  5. Task oriented with careful attention to detail;
  6. Ability to work on a team;
  7. Curious and motivated self-starter.

Technical Professional 2

  1. Competency – Understands and meets discipline specific quality standards. Applies increasing knowledge of discipline specific technology to carry out varied and increasingly complex tasks and projects under moderate supervision.

  4. Teaming – Has joint responsibility as a team member for departmental project results. Shows initiative by actively seeking to advance knowledge. Takes an active role in team meetings and decisions.

The minimum level of education, experience, and certifications required to perform the job.

  1. Developing incumbent possessing job related experience and demonstrating expanded competencies in position specific skills. Possesses familiarity with inter and cross departmental functions;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
  3. At least 3 years oil & gas experience;
  4. Knowledge of oil & gas permitting procedures, Colorado background preferred.
